## Why use this microphone test?

### Know you can be heard

The meter reacts as you speak, so a silent or muted mic is obvious straight away.

### Hear yourself back

Record five seconds and play it to check volume, echo and background noise.

### Pick the right input

Switch between your laptop mic, headset and USB microphone to find the one that sounds best.

### Audio stays on your device

Everything is processed in your browser. Your test recording is never uploaded and disappears when you leave the page.

## How to use the microphone test

1. Press Start microphone and allow access.
2. Speak and watch the level meter.
3. Choose another microphone if needed.
4. Record 5 seconds and play it back.

## What is a microphone test?

A microphone test reads the audio from your input device and shows how loud it is in real time. A healthy voice level moves the meter well into the middle without hitting the top constantly. Recording your screen with narration? ScreenBadger can capture your mic alongside the tab’s audio.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why is the meter not moving?

Check that the right microphone is selected, that it is not muted with a hardware switch, and that its input volume is turned up in your system sound settings.

### Why was microphone access blocked?

Your browser or system denied permission. Click the icon in the address bar to allow the microphone, and on macOS check System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone.

### Why does my recording sound quiet or muffled?

Move closer to the mic, face it directly, and reduce background noise. Headset and USB mics usually sound clearer than built-in laptop mics.

### Is my voice recorded or stored?

Only when you press Record, and only in your browser for playback. Nothing is uploaded.
