Why I built it
I wanted the recorder I couldn’t find.
I’m Jay-Are Ocero, and I build ScreenBadger. I used Awesome Screenshot to record videos, but its free plan tops out at 720p. Loom worked too, until I ran into its five-minute limit on free recordings. Screen Studio had the automatic zoom and smooth panning I loved, but it only runs on a Mac and needs a subscription.
I wanted one tool that records for up to an hour, exports up to 4K, zooms in on my clicks automatically, and takes screenshots too, without paying every month. I couldn’t find it, so I built it.

What I kept running into
- Awesome Screenshot Free recordings are capped at 720p, and local recordings at 5 minutes. 4K needs the Professional plan. Source
- Loom Free recordings stop at 5 minutes, with up to 25 videos and 720p. Longer videos and 4K need Business. Source
- Screen Studio Automatic zoom on clicks, but macOS only, with no free plan: $29 a month or $9 a month billed yearly. Source
ScreenBadger records up to 60 minutes for free, with automatic zooms and a screenshot studio. Free exports clean MP4 up to 720p, and a one-time Pro Lifetime removes the watermark through 4K. Competitor details checked October 2026.

Honest limits
What ScreenBadger doesn’t do
We’d rather you pick the right tool. ScreenBadger is focused on browser recordings, so a few things are out of scope today.
- Automatic zooms and privacy tracking work on tab recordings. Entire-screen recording (up to 1080p) uses manual zooms and blur, and system audio isn’t recorded.
- It runs in Chromium browsers only, not Safari or Firefox.
- Captions are written by you or imported as SRT/VTT; there are no automatic captions.
- Recordings longer than 60 minutes need to be split into separate takes.
